I waited forever before I finally began sharing the content I had piling up on my phone.
I didn't know how to make reels. Of course not. I'd never done it before. But I let that keep me from trying.
I thought I should know everything before I started. Maybe learn through a bunch of Youtube videos. I wanted to be sure of how I should do the thing first, and then try.
But months would go by. Still nothing.
Then one day I had had enough. No more bullshit. I sat down at Starbucks and told myself I wouldn't leave until I made a reel.
I was there over 4 hours.
It was a pain in the ass. I had so many photos to go through that I thought were good before but had never seen them in the app, because I had never started posting.
I felt so dumb and frustrated. It was taking me so long to figure out. All of it was new.
I went home and spent another 2 hours redoing it all.
In the end it was a 27 second video that had taken me the whole day. Most people just watched 9 seconds.
Was I discouraged? Not at all.
I had learned so freaking much in one day by trying the thing.
And I felt a release. I popped a cherry getting my first video out. Now it's easier, faster. And I've got momentum. I look forward to making something every week.
You have to start. We make a big mistake waiting until we're ready, because we actually end up doing nothing, and years go by.
I am so infinitely ahead of where I was. From doing nothing, to making weekly content. All because I simply sat down and tried.
You'll figure it out. But that's by doing the thing. You can start by reading or watching, but that's further procrastination. You'll learn so much more, and faster, by doing.
You'll suck. And you'll get better.
Just start.
