I got back yesterday from Seoul. Next week I'm headed to the Philippines. One month. No plans. Just me.
I'm kind of nervous.
I do plan to go surfing and scuba diving. But who knows what will come of this trip?
When I first went to Mexico, I just planned to visit a friend and practice my Spanish. I joined a tight group of scuba diving instructors in Cozumel, fell in love with it, and got an advanced license.
When I first went to Japan, I was happy to walk around and try all the food. I picked up the drums and started playing music again. I took lessons as soon as I got back.
Solo trips tend to do that. You go in with some or no idea of why you're going, only to discover something about yourself. Scuba diving is a love of mine, and the drums are freaking awesome!
So what about this trip?
I could fall in love.
I could find my calling.
I could get seriously injured.
I could die.
I could end up in the hospital for several weeks, or become handicapped for the rest of my life.
I could develop an addiction.
I could have a mental breakdown.
I could fall in love with surfing, and vanish from Taiwan and social media to pursue the flow state, doing anything I could just to have another chance at it.
I could get so homesick that I say screw it and fly back to the States. Nana or someone could pass away and I have to go back.
I could have a spiritual awakening and no longer desire anything at all. I could become enlightened.
I could have an ordinary trip with plenty of inconveniences.
I could feel like I'm wasting my time.
I could get depressed.
I could get robbed.
I could lose everything, which doesn't seem like that much.
I could just spend most of the time reading in the shade.
I could renounce material possessions and go rogue, go homeless.
I could get knocked on the head with a coconut and forget who I am. And old friends would come try to relate to me who I was.
I don't know. I have no idea.
