I didn't want to get old, at first. But it's better than the alternative (dying now).
Already, my hairline is receding, I've got bad crow's feet, and people have been telling me I look 35 since I was 26.
And most Asians say I look like Mark Zuckerburg. The nicer ones, Toby Maguire.
Many chest hairs are white now. I need to take hangovers seriously. I also gotta watch my rotator cuff (shoulder) on certain activities.
On the brighter side, and good reason to turn 30, is that I've never been so sure of myself:
I know what I like
I know what I don't
I got good hobbies
I can spend my time well
I know my limits
I got a grasp of my career and which direction to head
My habits are much better
I'm healthier and more active than ever
I have much less anxiety
I don't worry as much
And I no longer care what other people think
I would not trade the peace and assurance I have now for the looks of youth. I was so dumb, stupid, ignorant, and chaotic. I wasted so much time. I was so lost. I had big ideas that I never started. I got frustrated and beat myself up. I treated people poorly.
What a dumb @$#% I was.
I am much better now at conducting myself, setting goals and taking action.
I've also seen many places, met many people, and had many valuable experiences. All of which could only be bought with time.
If you're not convinced, and you dread getting old, here are some quotes:
“Truly, it is said, age has great advantage over youth. In age is both wisdom and experience. Youth may outrun the old, but not outwit.” - Chaucer
"Age, experience, and a little treachery, will beat youth and enthusiasm every time." - Willie Nelson
“Genius has no youth, but starts with the ripeness of age and old experience.” - Mark Twain
“It is not by muscle, speed, or physical dexterity that great things are achieved, but by reflection, force of character, and judgement; in these qualities old age is usually not only not poorer, but is even richer.” - Cicero
Getting old is great. I'm convinced.
